Surah At-Taubah, Ayat 64-66

Ayat 64. The hypocrites fear lest a Surah (chapter of the Quran) should be revealed about them, showing them what is in their hearts. Say: "(Go ahead and) mock! But certainly Allah will bring to light all that you fear."

Ayat 65. If you ask them (about this), they declare: "We were only talking idly and joking." Say: "Was it at Allah (SWT), and His Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) and His Messenger ( [SAWW](PBUH) that you were mocking?"

Ayat 66. Make no excuse; you have disbelieved after you had believed. If We pardon some of you, We will punish others amongst you because they were Mujrimûn (disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, criminals, etc.).

Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr bin Al Aas (May Allah be pleased with him) reported that he heard Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) as saying: Verily, the hearts of all the sons of Adam are between the two fingers out of the fingers of the Compassionate Lord as one heart. He turns that to any (direction) He likes. Then Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) said : "0 Allah, the Turner of the hearts, turn our hearts to Thine obedience".[Muslim Hadith # 6418].

Lesson : as mentioned above in Surah At-Taubah Ayat 64. The hypocrites fear lest a Surah (chapter of the Quran) should be revealed about them, showing them what is in their hearts. Obedience ( and Guidance) here means guidance at every turn of life and steadfastness on the path of truth. Fear of Allah is the greatest means of piety and strongest defense against sins.
